These four words sum up Chuck Penaflor. Chuck started his journey into firearms in the Fall of 2016 when he went to the gun range for the first time with two friends from his small group. From the beginning of his journey into firearms, Chuck has always made his approach on purpose and not “just because”. Chuck has deep convictions that just because you can doesn’t always mean that you should. From his first firearm purchase to his most recent, Chuck has always carefully and purposefully engaged in firearms.
In the beginning of 2017, Chuck got his concealed carry license from Indiana and has been a concealed carrier everywhere he is legally allowed to. Besides concealed carry, Chuck is also a competitive sporting clay shooter with the National Sporting Clay Association and a competitor with the International Defensive Pistol Association. In 2019, Chuck became a certified firearms instructor through the United States Concealed Carry Association (USCCA) and in 2020, he became a certified Range Safety Officer also through USCCA.
When Chuck is not instructing people, training on his own, or competing in a competition, you’ll find Chuck in a handful of places detailed below.
CONSTRUCTION! A graduate of Purdue University in May 2007, Chuck has been an estimator at Mattcon General Contractors, Inc. in Indianapolis, IN ever since graduating. Past construction experience before graduation included a wood framer for a home builder in his hometown of Kokomo, IN and an intern at the Robbins & Morton Group in Birmingham, Alabama. As an estimator, Chuck essentially answers the question “How much will this project cost?”. Chuck has been able to see the company grow from 12 people and $3.5 Million a year in annual sales when he started in 2007 to over 40 people and $50 Million a year in annual sales. Chuck has bid on projects as small as $10,000 to as large as $10 Million. Chuck also enjoys wearing a few other hats at his work including IT support and company wide events planner. YOUTH MINISTRY! Since 2006 Chuck has been involved in youth ministry and loves seeing young people experience the life that God has for them through an authentic and personal relationship in Christ. Ever since high school Chuck has always had a knack for ministry and his path to get to where he is today is a story he loves to tell. Chuck has been the lead youth pastor at MyChurch Indy on the east side of Indianapolis since 2014. Chuck is the founder and executive director of the Ascent Internship which has provided a unique discipleship and spiritual growth opportunity for high school students in the Indianapolis area since 2010. Chuck is an energetic and eloquent speaker and loves sharing his story that is uniquely his and the many life changing lessons that he has learned and experienced through his relationship with Christ. Chuck actually uses firearms and shooting sports as a unique and creative way to do discipleship with students all while reinforcing safety, responsibility, and confidence. #club365indyfamily

BBQ! A primarily self-taught pitmaster, Chuck is a self-proclaimed accomplished BBQ cooker. Cooking low and slow since 2008, Chuck has loved cooking almost anything over a fire from beef, chicken, pork, lamb, rabbit, duck, squirrel and even vegetables every now and then on one of his 5 different pits. Chuck is a purest when it comes to his BBQ as he uses primarily charcoal & wood as his heat source…no gas, propane, or lighter fluid on his cookers! Some of Chuck’s favorite things to cook on the smoker or the grill include his competition chicken thighs, pork tenderloin, beef chuck roasts, and baby back ribs. Chuck also has some unique things he cooks on the grill like bacon wrapped mac n cheese, bacon wrapped breakfast bites, and cheese stuffed chorizo meatballs. Chuck is a licensed Kansas City BBQ Society Judge and even finished tied for 7th in the state of Indiana in chicken at a state-wide BBQ contest in 2010. OUTDOORS! Chuck loves the idea of being outside enjoying all God’s creation has to offer. The joy and excitement of loading a backpack full of supplies and gear to be prepared for whatever the elements may throw at him and taking a stroll. Outside of hiking Indiana State Parks, some national parks and national forests have also been explored. Even while exploring the great outdoors, Chuck typically brings his firearm(s) with him. #hiking #outdoors
